We’re passionate about problem solving, helping you innovate and make an impact.

Meet Esra

Esra is a Professor of Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics, and continues to contribute to research, teaching and university leadership activities at the University of Sussex. Her research is interdisciplinary and encompasses mechanical and biological applications. Her work focuses on modelling, analysis and design of thermofluid systems. Her research served to develop innovative solutions and create tangible economic and societal impact in sectors such as water industry, household appliances, automotive, renewable energy and domestic heating industry.

She led about thirty academic and industrial projects, delivered over a dozen keynote talks, and co-authored numerous journal and conference papers and a book titled “Biothermodynamics: Principles and Applications”.

Meet Mark

Mark is an expert in experimental fluid mechanics. He has a background in gas turbine engines, where his work helped improving sustainability of gas turbines by saving 90 tonnes of fuel and 240 tonnes of CO2 over the typical life of a single engine. Since the last eight years, he is collaborating with Prof Sorguven and transferring his knowledge and skills derived from gas turbine research to a wide range of industrial applications, such as aeroacoustics of heat pumps, design of turbomachinery and digital twinning.

He is the lead for the experimental studies at TFC.

Meet Bella

Bella is an experienced product designer and design educator who worked in various industries prior to starting her career in academia. She has been involved in and led projects in furniture, lighting, bathroom fittings, interactive garments and interactive stage costumes for celebrities. She has a passion in sustainability and design education. She believes in the power of design to change the world to be a better place for all. Currently she is a lecturer as University of Sussex specialised in product design and interaction design. She also works as a project manager at ThermoFluids Consultancy, helping companies solve complicated engineering problems with innovative solutions.

Meet Henry

Henry joined Prof Sorguven’s research team in 2023 after finishing his PhD on cardio engineering and medical devices. With a background in renewable energy, micro/nano systems, and medical devices, he specialises in interdisciplinary experimental research and detailed numerical simulations. He holds a BEng from the Open University, and an MSc in advanced mechanical engineering and a PhD in cardio engineering and wireless medical devices from Sussex.
